One-on-One Consulting for Self-Publishers

Self-publishing can be a difficult road when you’re going it alone. But it gets easier with a guide by your side.

There’s no doubt about it, going through the process of publishing a book can be overwhelming. Sometimes it can almost seem as though you’re navigating this path without a compass, unsure where to turn next.

Because self-publishing is such a solitary endeavor, you likely have questions, but no one to ask. And who wants to spend endless hours scouring the Internet for answers when all you really want is a helpful conversation with an actual human?

For those times, when you’re feeling lost and alone, let me be your guide. I’ve been there, done that, and I have the experience to show for it.

With over 20 years in the publishing industry, I’m here to be your sounding board as we work through your questions and concerns so that you can get your publishing journey back on track and progressing smoothly.

I remember what it was like to go it alone, and I know how much I could have benefited from an understanding mentor who was there to offer insights when things were unclear.

Let me be that person for you.

Because, with these one-on-one consultation sessions for self-publishers, help is just a phone call away. That way you can feel less lost and better equipped to navigate this journey with confidence instead of confusion.

You’ve got questions. I’ve got answers about…

The quality of your book cover • The content of your book description • Navigating publishing platforms • Building an author platform • Utilizing NetGalley and other review platforms • Or just about anything else related to the business of self-publishing

Every author’s situation is unique. And, the list of possible questions is endless.

But, regardless of what your queries might be, I’ll devote our session to answering anything you would like to discuss to the best of my ability.

Hi, I’m Heather Wallace. I’ve been in the business of self-publishing for over two decades, both as the founder of H.R. Wallace Publishing and as one of Reedsy’s top marketers.

Since 2002, I’ve published a catalog of books and, as a result, I’ve known the elation of five-figure months and earning hundreds of dollars just over lunch.

Self-publishing truly changed my life.

And, following my success, I made a commitment to give back to the self-publishing community by sharing what I know.

As a result, my consultations have helped clients land on top of Amazon’s charts, thanks, in part, to the well-researched metadata and winning descriptions that I’ve provided as well as the wealth of knowledge that I’ve imparted.

And, by sharing what I know here at Bookland Insider, I want to arm YOU with the wisdom you need so that you too can experience the thrill of seeing your books succeed.

Praise from Past Clients

"Heather provided a huge amount of details and tips and advice, which is perfect for a marketing novice like me."

From pre-call to post-call, here’s what you can expect:

  1. I’ll devote time before our call to prepare for our session, whether that’s reacquainting myself with your questionnaire, evaluating your website, reviewing your book cover, or analyzing your book description.
  2. At our scheduled time, we will meet online for one hour via Zoom audio so that you can ask me as many questions as you like within that time frame. I recommend that you prepare a list of topics beforehand so that we can make good use of our session.
  3. After our call ends, I’ll get to work preparing a summary of our conversation so that you’ll have something to refer to as you move forward.
  4. Beyond our conversation, you also receive a week of support via email to cover any lingering questions.

So Many Authors, So Little Time

I would love to help all of the authors who are stumbling their way through self-publishing. But, let’s be honest, there aren’t enough hours in the day.

For that reason, I must be selective. So, if you want a chance to take advantage of this exclusive opportunity, you will first need to complete a short questionnaire in order to provide me with a few important details.

It’s only once I know more about you, your writing, and your areas of inquiry that I’ll be able to decide if I think that a chat will provide value to your situation.

Invest in Your Future

Once you’re accepted, an appointment will be $300 for a Zoom session of up to one hour, as well as one week of follow up questions*.

That time should be plenty to leave you feeling confident in your next steps following our session.

And, be honest, isn’t it worth the investment to be able to cut through the confusion and banish those lingering doubts that have been plaguing your progress?

Between your writing and my mentorship, anything is possible.

But remember, space is limited, so now is the best time to apply before your fellow authors snag all of my available time slots.

Please note, I review each application that I receive. So, strive to put your best foot forward because, the more effort you put into your application, the more likely you are to be selected.

And, after going over your information, if I think that I can help, you can expect to receive a notification in your inbox so that you can complete the checkout process and reserve a date.

Above all, I look forward to reading your submission and to the possibility of joining you as an ally on your self-publishing journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I obligated to schedule a call if my application is approved?

Your invitation will remain valid for a period of time, but you are not obligated to follow-through. However, because I invest my time to review every application, I ask that you please only apply if you are serious about moving forward.

How soon can we speak?

That depends entirely upon my availability. However, the sooner you submit your questionnaire, the more likely that you’ll be able to secure an earlier time slot.

How do I schedule my appointment?

After your application has been approved, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to make your payment and book a time for our chat.

Can I purchase additional consultations?

Absolutely! Your questions should be answered during our initial conversation. But, if you find that additional questions pop up afterward that merit discussion, then you’re more than welcome to purchase a time slot for another chat.

What if I can’t make my appointment or need to reschedule?

Calls may be cancelled or rescheduled up to two weeks prior to your selected date. But, if less than two weeks remain before the date of our call, then a 50% cancellation fee will be charged.

*Can I really ask you anything as a part of my one-week email follow-up?

This week of follow-up attention is offered within reason. For example, if it becomes apparent that your question requires a lengthy written response, or isn’t straight-forward and would benefit from a discussion, then I will advise you to book another appointment.

My Full Disclosure Disclaimer:

As someone who has spent a lot of time in this field, I want to make one thing clear; publishing a book is not a get-rich-quick situation. Hard work is going to be required and any success that you might see is not going to come over night.

Beyond that, the results that I’ve seen are not typical and, because each situation is unique, yours will definitely vary. I’ve invested years’ worth of time and effort into getting where I am today, and I’ve been lucky to experience the results that I’ve achieved.

Not all self-publishers will succeed, and this consultation does not come with any guarantee as to the results that you might see. Rather, this service is an educational tool that can be used to further your knowledge of the field.

Further, as with any business enterprise, publishing involves risk and, as such, some will succeed while others will fail. Finally, while all testimonials are genuine, they are not offered to imply a guarantee that you will achieve the same results.
